I caught up with her to talk about the new record as well as hitting the road with Alexander Burke.
-You have just released your new single Till I See You Again, so what can we expect from the record?
I think its a catchy pop song about love. I'm very proud of it! We wrote it in a day and I think its a bittersweet love song about long distance love that isn't working out.
-The video sees you team up with Harvey B.Brown, how did that collaboration come about?
Harvey was approached to my video and he absolutely loved the song and his vision for it was so great that I knew he was the one I wanted to do my video!
Harvey is so talented and it was an honour to work with someone like him!
-How did you find working with Harvey and what was it about his previous work that made you want to work with him?
Harvey's a true professional and is all about the small details so I learnt alot from him regarding how important it is to oversee everything and make sure everything is in its right place to make the overall image perfect!
I loved the Diana Vickers Once video he did and his work with The Saturdays and Girls Aloud.
-You have already been tipped as one of the artists to keep an eye on for 2011 so what do you think of the buzz thats already surrounding you?
It's great to have people finally take notice of me as an artist as I've been doing this for 7 years now so it's been a long process!
But I'm just keeping my head down and working hard to achieve my goal and keep doing something thats my dream!
-How would you describe your sound? And who are your greatest musical influences?
I would say my sound is acoustic/pop. Ohh so many people have inspired me, from Fleetwood
Mac, Tracy Chapman, Jewel, Adele, Christina Aguilera....I could go on!
-An album is also in the pipeline for later on in the year so what can we expect from that?
A mixture of pop tunes, ballads, some ballsy numbers and a bit of stripped back acoustic numbers! I want 20 tracks so I better get to work haha.
- You have been surrounded in music all your life being classically trained in the violin so how and why did you make the transition into pop music?
I've always loved pop music so it wasnt really a transition, I was taught classical music at school with the violin and loved it but my first love has always been pop music.
- After leaving college you decided not to go on to university and went out to gig instead so how did those early shows impact on your development as an artist?
I think I needed to do the ground work and play some truly awful gigs to realise how much hard work it was gonna be and how to grab an audience's attention when they arent really interested in you.
I think those years helped me a lot and help me to this day as I managed myself, got my own gigs and was really finding my own feet in the whole music industry.
I also wasn't in the bubble of university or college so was just working so it made me push myself alot more I feel.
- You have just completed a tour with Alexandra Burke so how was that?
It was amazing! A truly unforgetable experience! I still can't believe I was on it, seems so surreal.
Once of the hardest and best experiences of my life! I learnt a lot about myself and how much you gotta look after your health when you are playing 5 nights a week!
-Finally what's next for you?
I'm going to continue on the album, continue to work hard and continue to have fun.
