Cairo Film Festival canceled

Finally and after a long debate, the Egyptian Minister of Culture Emad Abu Ghazi decided to cancel the Cairo International Film Festival this year.

Abu Ghazi confirmed in statements published by the "Middle East News Agency" the overall policies and management of festivals in Egypt are currently being reconsidered by the government.

The decision came after the Transitional Government studied the budget of the Ministry of Culture and Cultural Development Fund, which has been reduced by 83% meaning approximately EGP 100 million Egyptian pounds annually, making it impossible to host this many festivals every year.

The Minister privately stated to ATC news agency over the phone that the extraordinary circumstances that Egypt went through this year upon the January 25 revolution will be considered.

With this decision, the main event of the year for filmmakers and people in Egypt's film industry will be lost this year...YC/ATC-TCL.com (MSN-ARABIA)
