Final Destination 5 Trailer Online

EMPIRE ONLINE:  Because the last film made enough money to get the studio itching for more, we’re naturally being treated to a fifth instalment of the Final Destination franchise. And the trailer for this latest outing full of folk cheating death is now available for your ogling pleasure over at Apple.

You surely know the drill by now: a group of random people have a lucky escape from a big disaster (in this case, a suspension bridge collapsing) thanks to a vision experienced by – we’re just guessing here – Sam Lawton, played by Nicholas D’Agosto.

But, as usual, death is not best pleased that a bunch of likely victims have avoided their date with the reaper and, one by one, they begin to die off in suitably complicated, nasty ways.

What’s different this time around? Well, for one thing, Tony Todd is back as the mysterious Bludworth, the man who seems to know more about what’s going on than anyone, and gives good growl about it. Plus we get the chance to see Anchorman’s David Koechner die a grisly, tar-covered death.

The trailer is also selling the idea that the rules have changed this one, and one of the characters mentions “kill or be killed,” which makes us suspect they may cotton on to the idea of offing fellow survivors in the hopes that death/fate/whatever will be sated. Don’t like their chances, given the usual run of events, but it might offer a vaguely fresh twist.

What’ll really count is the inspiration behind the various death scenes, with new director Steven Quale and Nightmare on Elm Street writer Eric Heisserer needing to deliver. We’ll say one thing – the promo along makes this writer glad that acupuncture doesn’t feature in his life. Check it out on Apple's site and let us know your thoughts
